New Dominion Construction was tasked with removing and replacing four existing doors and frames around Lakehurst Naval Air Center. The hollow metal doors needed to be removed and replaced, which presented a few unique challenges. The existing system had many issues—it was very old, worn out and rusted from the salty sea air of the Jersey Shore.
The particular challenge of this project was the actual replacement itself—two of the double doors needed to be replaced with manual push-up coiling doors. The new doors were custom sized for this specific application. After installation, they became two new accessways into the aircraft hangar. This project was completed well within the project schedule and the allotted budget.
